Natural treatments for ear mites in cats
Ear mites are difficult to prevent but there are some effective home remedies for cats to deal with them. It is important to treat ear mites immediately as they are a major cause of ear infection. They are highly contagious and can easily spread to other pets. Although the condition mainly affects the ears, it can also affect other areas of the body such as the tail, neck and back.
There are a number of commercial products containing insecticides but home remedies for cats with ear mites have proven to be equally highly effective in cleaning the ears and getting rid of mites. Such remedies have been specifically formulated to treat and prevent ear infections as well as ear mites, without the side effects of commercial synthetic pesticides or prescription drugs.
Herbal home remedies for cats like tea tree oil, rosemary, marigold and mullein soothe and condition the ear passages and prevent itchy ears associated with an ear mite infection. Ear Dr from Pet Alive contains these herbs and will keep the ear canals clear and free of blockages while also soothing the ear passages to prevent itching and scratching.
If you don’t want to use a ready-made remedy, insert a few drops of olive oil or vegetable oil into the ear, using an eye dropper to smother the mites. Pour 10 drops into your cat’s ear morning and evening. Massage the oil thoroughly into the ear. This will help to bring debris up to the outer part of the ear. You can then wipe it away with a cotton ball. Do not use cotton buds for this as they can cause damage to the ear canal. Continue the treatment for five days. Leave a gap of three days and then repeat the entire process.
